Beni Suef.. under siege

Beni Suef is an important agricultural center, which grew from a small village and now hosts a population of over 200,000.  Beni Suef is located about 115 km (71 mi) south of Cairo. Last week i was assigned by my newspaper to cover the city for 24 hours as violence was expected, Beni Suef is the hometown of the supreme MB guide Dr.Mohamed Badie who was arrested days before -August 20-  nearly the largest number of brotherhood supporters in Egypt are in Beni Suef, legitimacy supporters marched in the Friday of “Islamic revolution – August 30” through all the possible streets as the army was blocking all main streets with tanks and barbed wires.

Usually its not an active city so the curfew didn’t affect it as much it affected Cairo or other major cities, but what really affected the trade motion for the city is the stoppage of the trains since the 14th of August 2013, when security forces dispersed both largest pro-Morsi sit-ins in Rabaa and Nahda square where hundreds where killed and the state of emergency was announced, at that time away from Cairo clashes erupted between security forces and the MBs which resulted in many loses for the city, The historic court house was destroyed along with many other buildings including an old nuns school.
